Independance Day

September 15th is Independence Day in Honduras. To celebrate they have a parades. We went to three different parades on different days. The small children Kindergarten through 3rd grade from the schools in Coxen Hole, marched on the 13th. Canaan was a part of that march. It was so hot his t-shirt was wet with sweat when we got home. The little girls dress up in fancy dresses, like little princesses. The little boys did what boys do very well.....
Making a lot of noise, beating drums and blowing on whistles. This is one of our neighbor girls, Anita.

On the 14th we went to the parade in Sandy Bay, which is the small town that we live in. The children in this parade were from the Sandy Bay school which is Kindergarten through 6th grade. The day of this parade it poured rain. Everyone just waited for the rain to stop then quick ran out to do the parade.
The princesses represent each state of Honduras

Their shirts, gloves and socks are so white it is amazing.
Lining up for the march.
Umbrellas The drummers had practiced for weeks before the parade, we could hear them sometimes from our house. They did such a good job.We went to one more parade in Coxen Hole. It was on the 15th. It was all of the older kids like high school age. It was a lot of fun. I didn't get any photos on that day. But we enjoyed it so much. It was a wonderful way to celebrate Independence day.
